I will not give you a link to the site. It's against dA policy to share links to pornographic content!
So I woke up today and saw that this was really blowing up in my messages.
Basically it's about a porn site that seems to be displaying art from various deviants and thus predictably causing some confusion and outrage. Despite the fact that there was a chance that the site might be armed with viruses I decided to go ahead and give it a look and here's the important part;
DO NOT VISIT THE SITE.
I've seen from many journals including the one I found the news on that you can see if your art is on the site by replacing the url with your own. DON'T DO IT. The longer you stay on the site/the more pages you browse through the more of a chance you'll have at contracting something harmful to your computer.
To ease your nerves, I personally don't think that it's really an art theft site and more of a shady search engine. You can choose to believe me or not but I think everyone should just rest easy, here's why:
When I entered my own user name "m10n" into google images I get images of computers and techy stuff as well as art from my dA. Likewise when I edited the porn site url with mine I also got images of computer stuff and techy stuff. (and porn but smh)
In addition, I used my friend, papprica's username which is a derivation of "paprika" a spice. Not surprisingly, when I entered her name into the porn site url, I got a lot of chili peppers and spice powders rather than her art.
Lastly, if you click on the image of your art on the porn site it redirects you to the image in your dA gallery. Sounds familiar? That's how it is on google images too, therefore this isn't a repost of your art but a search of your username.
If you guys are freaking out because you're entering your usernames and seeing your art on that site. Of course you will because most of your usernames are unique and therefore searching them would bring up your art on any image search engine.
Please spread the news because I saw in the comments of a lot of the journals that I read through that many other users were checking for their art (despite the fact that porn sites are known to have malicious content).
If you know anyone who was worried about this, feel free to link them to this journal/copy this journal and repost it.
If you have already visited the site, scan your computer asap.
If you don't have an antivirus program to scan with, I recommend MBAM: www.malwarebytes.org/
or any reliable one, just don't go using random ones because some of them give more viruses than they get rid of.
Edit:Apparently people have been telling me that Apple products do get infected but just less likely compared to Windows. Just a heads up!
Thank you, I hope this calmed some of you down. Enjoy Father's Day!</strike>
